Happy new year all! This is my first post of 2013, wahey.
I'm enjoying my last few days of freedom and being at home - and today I went up to Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park with my friend Pins.
It was a little disappointing, extremely expensive, and very wet.
Hat - Accessorize (gift)
Coat - Very (dyed brown)
Backpack - ASOS
Tights - M&S
Brogues - Topshop
Pins looking pretty.
Me and Pins smiling despite the rain.
In the end we walked to Marble Arch, had lunch, then went shopping at Covent Garden and then walked to Piccadilly Circus and had a yummy TGI Friday's for dinner.
I also saw these guards on horses which I thought I'd show you.
For Christmas my Mum bought me a macaroon making kit, which you can buy from Accessorize, and yesterday I thought I would give it a go.
Of course you can make macaroons without this kit as it's only really supplying you with the paper, gift tags and a piping bag, but I found it helpful. You buy the ingredients yourself which only consists of icing sugar, ground almonds, caster sugar, egg whites, vanilla essence and food colouring.
After having piped the mix into small circles, the key is to let them rest for about 30-60 minutes before putting them in the oven. This stops the mixture from running in the oven.
They came out pretty well for the first try, but I think next time I'll make them slightly bigger and use more food colouring. Also, getting the consistency right is tricky, as I'm assuming thats the key to not getting that 'cracked' look.
